THE FIRST STEP
WAS MISSING.
we built it.
Snow sports had no starting point designed for kids. No local place to build skills, build confidence, and build a foundation before the mountain. So we created one.
Because for too many families, learning on the mountain is expensive, inconsistent, and overwhelming long before it becomes fun.
A mountain trip that felt
harder than it should have.
Shredder started with a problem we faced with our own kids: long drives, crowded resort experiences, too little attention, and too much pressure on the mountain.
The issue wasn't that skiing and snowboarding were too hard to learn. It was that most kids were being asked to learn in the wrong environment: cold, crowded, expensive, and far too infrequent.
We came from youth sports. Local reps, weekly coaching, small groups, a clear path — every other youth sport had this. Snow sports didn't.
So we built the missing starting point — a place where kids could learn the fundamentals locally, build confidence steadily, and show up to the mountain ready for the fun part.
"We built the thing we wished had existed for our own kids." — Rob G., Shredder Owner
The Trip Stops Being
the Hard Part.
Three things parents tell us change once their kid starts at Shredder.
You stop dreading the trip.
The drive used to come with a knot in your stomach — would today be a meltdown or a memory? Now your kid steps off the lift and knows what to do. You exhale instead of bracing.
Your kid asks when they can go back.
Skills built locally. Confidence built itself. The mountain stops feeling like a test and starts feeling like the reward — and they want more of it. You're not making them go.
You actually ski — together.
No more six hours in the lodge. No more peeling off to manage tears. You ski. Your kid keeps up. The trip becomes the family outing you bought into in the first place.
EVERY KID DESERVES TO FEEL
confident on the mountain.
Skiing and snowboarding should not depend on perfect geography, expensive trial-and-error, or whether a child happens to have a great first experience. We believe more families deserve a better way into the sport.
WE BUILT THE SYSTEM AROUND
how kids actually learn.
Shredder was not built to move as many kids through a lesson as possible.
It was built to help kids feel safe, make progress, and build confidence before the mountain ever gets involved.
That meant making a few choices we still stand by today — even when the easier path would have been cheaper, faster, or more scalable.
Same coach whenever possible.
Even when scheduling is harder. Kids learn best when they learn from someone who knows their pace, their fears, and their last win.
Small groups.
Even when bigger groups would be easier to run. Real attention does not work when a coach is managing a crowd.
Real coaches, not random seasonal help.
Even when staffing is harder. Kids build trust through consistency, and trust is what lets them try hard things.
A real progression, not one-off lessons.
Even when families just want to try it once. One day does not build a skier or snowboarder. A clear path does.
Built for kids from the beginning.
Even when adapting adult lessons would have been cheaper. Kids learn differently, so the whole system starts there.
