Getting Started The Training Surface Scheduling & Policies Camps, Open Gyms & Packs

Getting Started

All gear is included — skis, boots, poles, and helmet. Bring your own helmet if you have one — any style works at Shredder, including bike helmets. On the indoor slope, a bike helmet is perfectly fine and helps with falls. For mountain days, we recommend a proper ski or snowboard helmet — they're warmer, better ventilated for cold weather, and designed for the specific conditions you'll encounter outdoors. Dress kids in comfortable athletic clothing (shorts, leggings, t-shirt). No snow pants or thermals needed. Socks are required. Snowboarders are welcome to bring elbow or knee pads if they'd like them — Shredder doesn't provide those. Yeti School parents: wear closed-toe shoes, you'll be on the slope too.

Students are grouped by ability level, then rotate through stations with their instructor — slope time for technique, plus back-room work on athletic development and mountain knowledge. Every session is structured and progressive. Skills build week over week.

Yes — enrollment is open mid-session and we'll prorate the cost for remaining sessions. Contact your local location to confirm availability.

Drop-off is strongly encouraged for regular sessions. Kids focus better and build independence faster without a parent in view — it's intentional, not just policy. Yeti School and Open Gyms are the exceptions; those are parent-participation programs. All camps are drop-off only. Lobby viewing is limited in most facilities. In the final 5 minutes of the session, we'll sometimes invite parents to a viewing spot to watch and snap photos.

Most kids are skiing or riding green runs independently after 6–10 sessions — an average of 6 weeks. Every child progresses at their own pace, but 94% of Shredder kids advance a skill level every session. Your instructor tracks progress weekly and will let you know when your child is ready to take it to the mountain.

The Training Surface

We use Xtreme turf by Grassworx, lightly sprayed with water during sessions. The treated surface lets skis and boards glide downhill and engage edges for turning and stopping — the same physical interaction as packed mountain snow. This surface is used at facilities across Europe, Asia, Australia, and the US.

The opposite, actually. Most families report that kids perform better on real snow after training indoors. The surface replicates real snow mechanics — edges engage the same way, weight transfer works identically — so every skill transfers directly. Weekly practice also builds far more repetition than one or two mountain days a year.

Yes. Our curriculum is built on PSIA-AASI principles — the same standards used at mountain resorts — so skill progressions map directly to outdoor lesson levels.

Varies by location. A typical facility has a large slope (10–12 ft tall, 42–47 ft long), a medium slope (4–8 ft tall, 22–26 ft long), and sometimes a small beginner slope (3 ft tall, 10 ft long). Contact your local location for their specific setup.

Scheduling & Policies

Because our small student-to-instructor ratios depend on consistent enrollment, missed classes don't earn make-up classes, prorated tuition, or refunds. Here's what we do instead:

Missed a class (illness or another unexpected absence)? Your Shredder facility can issue a one-time coupon code worth the value of an Open Gym — and you can put it toward any program open for registration, not just Open Gym. It's valid through the final day of the session. One code per child per session; if you have more than one child enrolled, ask your facility about a custom code.

If Shredder closes or cancels (for example, a weather closure), every enrolled student receives a coupon code worth one class in that session — again usable toward any program and valid through the session's final day.

Unexcused absences don't earn make-ups, prorated tuition, or refunds. If something extenuating came up, contact your facility and they'll help.

Classes

Refunds and prorated tuition are not available for missed individual classes during a session. For an excused absence (illness or another unexpected reason), your facility can issue a one-time coupon code worth the value of an Open Gym — valid through the end of the session and usable toward any program.

For full details, see the make-up policy above.

Installment payment options may be available for 10-week Peak Season class sessions, including Fall and Winter Sessions.

Full Session Class Enrollments

If you cancel before your 3rd scheduled class, you may choose one of the following for your remaining, unattended classes:

  • A refund for the remaining class value
  • A Shredder credit for the remaining class value

If you cancel at or after your 3rd scheduled class, you may receive:

  • A Shredder credit for the remaining class value

If classes are delayed due to a facility closure, unexpected disruption, or other unforeseen circumstance, you may receive:

  • A Shredder credit for the remaining class value
Class Credit Notes

Credits are retained as a dollar amount, not as a per-class amount. Credits may be used toward eligible Shredder programs offered at your facility.

“Remaining, unattended classes” means the classes left in your enrollment as of the cancellation date. It does not include classes missed before cancellation — those fall under the make-up policy above (a one-time, Open-Gym-value coupon code), not these cancellation credits.

By enrolling in classes, you agree to follow Shredder’s refund and credit policy. If you have questions, concerns, or special circumstances, please contact your local Shredder facility.

Camps

This policy applies to summer camps, holiday camps, and camps offered during a session.

If you cancel more than one week before your scheduled camp date, you may choose:

  • A full refund
  • A full Shredder credit

If you cancel less than one week before your scheduled camp date, you may receive:

  • A full Shredder credit

If your child does not attend camp and you do not notify Shredder in advance, no refund or credit will be issued for the missed camp day.

Private Lessons

If you cancel more than one week before your scheduled private lesson, you may choose:

  • A refund of your deposit
  • A Shredder credit for your deposit

If you cancel less than one week before your scheduled private lesson, you may receive:

  • A Shredder credit for your deposit

If you cancel less than 24 hours before your scheduled private lesson, your deposit is non-refundable and no credit will be issued.

Parent’s Night Out

If you cancel more than one week before your scheduled Parent’s Night Out, you may choose:

  • A full refund
  • A full Shredder credit

If you cancel less than one week before your scheduled Parent’s Night Out, you may receive:

  • A full Shredder credit

If you cancel less than 24 hours before your scheduled Parent’s Night Out, no refund or credit will be issued.

Birthday Parties

Birthday parties must be coordinated and scheduled directly with your local Shredder facility. Once your party date and time are confirmed, you will receive a deposit invoice to hold the reservation. The deposit will be applied toward the total party cost.

Birthday party deposits are non-refundable. If an extenuating circumstance arises, please contact your local Shredder facility directly to discuss your options.

Each location uses the local school district's policies as guidance, but the final closure decision is made by that facility's Gym Director. Check the Announcement Box on your location's registration page, Shredder's Instagram Story, or your email. If Shredder closes the facility, every enrolled student receives a coupon code worth one class in the session. If we stay open but you'd rather not travel, use your own judgment and contact your location — they can issue the standard missed-class coupon code.

Camps, Open Gyms & Packs

Half-day camps: snack + water bottle. Full-day camps: lunch, two snacks, and a water bottle. All ski and snowboard gear is provided. Kids are welcome to bring a book, game, or craft for downtime.

Open Gym is unstructured practice time with a parent or adult supervising. No instructor — just the facility and slopes for reinforcing what your child has already learned. Times and availability vary by location; check your location's registration page for the current schedule.

Packs let you buy multiple drop-in sessions (camps, Open Gyms, or private lessons) in bulk at a discounted rate. When you register for an eligible program, a Pack credit is automatically applied. Purchase them on your location's registration page or during checkout. Some Packs have expiration dates — check before buying.
