That split is the whole idea, and it's a better deal than it first sounds. The hardest, least fun part of snowboarding is the first few hours — falling, getting back up, and learning to trust an edge you can't see. Doing that on a cold mountain with a lift ticket ticking away is how a lot of kids decide they dislike snowboarding before they've really done any.
What snowboarding at Shredder Richardson is
Kids ride an engineered indoor slope with a genuine downhill pitch, in a room kept at ordinary temperature. They wear real snowboard boots and strap into a real board — the board, boots and helmet are all included and sized for them. Coaches cue stance, toe and heel edge, speed control, getting up off the slope, and linking turns.
It is not mountain snow. It is not a refrigerated snow dome, and it is not a video-game simulator. It's a surface engineered so the movements transfer — which means kids come in leggings or joggers and a long-sleeve top, and nobody gets wet or cold.

- Yeti School — ages 1 to 3. A grown-up is on the slope. Play, balance and gear comfort.
- Little Shredders — ages 3 to 5. Small-group progression: sliding, stopping and the first real turns.
- Ski & Board School — ages 5 to 10. The group splits by sport, so riders get board-specific coaching: edge control, linked turns, chairlift skills and mountain safety habits.
- Private lessons — above 10, including teenagers and adults. One coach, one rider, at whatever pace suits.

Is the indoor slope real snow?
No, and we don't claim it is. It's an engineered dry slope with a real downhill pitch, built so a board edges, slows and turns the way it does on snow. It's dry and kept at ordinary room temperature, so there's no snowsuit and nothing to get wet or cold in. It's not a snow dome and it's not a video-game simulator.
What age can kids start snowboarding in Texas?
One. Yeti School covers ages 1 to 3 with a grown-up on the slope, Little Shredders 3 to 5, and Ski & Board School 5 to 10, where the group splits by sport so riders get board-specific coaching. Above 10, including teenagers and adults, we teach private lessons.
