Sound Familiar?

"One bad day on the mountain and suddenly skiing is not really our family's thing."

You traveled a long way, paid $400+ for lift tickets, rented gear, and booked a group lesson. Your kid ended up cold, exhausted, and crying by noon — while an instructor tried to manage eight other kids at the same time.

The skills didn't stick. Next winter you're back at square one, wondering whether it's even worth trying again. Meanwhile, the mountain lesson prices just went up.

It's not your kid's fault. It's not your fault. Mountain lessons are genuinely hard — new environment, cold, crowds, an instructor they've never met. That's a lot to ask of a 4-year-old.

There's a better way to get DFW kids mountain-ready — and it starts 20 minutes from home, once a week, in a 70°F room with the same coach every session.

Learning at the Mountain
The traditional approach
  • 8+ kids per class — instructors stretched thin
  • Cold, tired, and overwhelmed by lunch
  • Skills forgotten by next winter
  • $400+ for the day, before food and lodging
  • 4–5 hour drive from DFW
Weekly Shredder Sessions
Richardson, TX · Near home
  • Max 5 kids — feels like a private lesson
  • Same coach every week, skills build on each other
  • Real progress that carries to the mountain
  • ~$50/class · 20 minutes from downtown Dallas
  • Warm 65–70°F — no cold, no bad days
Think About It This Way

SWIM LESSONS
for the mountain.

You'd never teach your kid to swim by dropping them in the ocean. You'd start in a warm pool — shallow end, patient instructor, one skill at a time.

That's Shredder. A warm, indoor slope close to home where kids learn the same way they learn swimming: safely, gradually, and with confidence before the stakes get high.

The goal isn't to survive the first mountain day. It's to raise a kid who loves it.

After several weeks of practice on the carpet, we took our new skills to Beaver Creek, CO — where she shined in ski school, advancing to level 3 by her first day.

After spending a lot on lessons in Vail that didn't help my confidence much, Lacey and Mike were incredible. They challenged me in the best way and helped me gain speed while still feeling completely in control.

I went in knowing nothing about skiing, and walked out confident enough to head straight to the top of the mountain and ski green runs with my family. I'll absolutely be bringing my son here for lessons when he turns 2.

Common Questions

Richardson FAQ

Questions specific to our Richardson location. For general Shredder questions, visit our full FAQ page.

My child has never skied or snowboarded. Is that okay?
Absolutely — that's our specialty. Most of our students come in with zero experience. Our programs are specifically designed for first-timers, and our instructors are trained to make that first experience fun and confidence-building.
What should my child wear?
No snow gear needed — our facility is climate-controlled at 65–70°F year-round. Athletic clothes work perfectly. You're welcome to bring your own helmet if you have one.
Is gear included?
Yes — all ski and snowboard gear (skis/snowboard, boots, poles, helmet) is included and professionally fitted at every session. There's nothing extra to buy or bring.
What's Shredder's refund and credit policy?
Refund and credit options vary by program, timing, and enrollment type. For full-session classes: refunds may be available before the 3rd scheduled class; Shredder credits may be available for remaining classes after. Camps & Parent's Night Out: refunds or credits depend on advance-cancellation timing. Private lesson deposits follow the same advance-timing structure. Birthday party deposits are non-refundable once confirmed. View the full policy →
Do you offer private lessons before a ski trip?
Yes — this is one of the most popular ways to use private lessons. Many Dallas families book a session or series of private lessons before heading to Colorado or Utah resorts. Even 2–3 sessions can make a dramatic difference in confidence on the mountain.
What if my child misses a session?
We don't run make-up classes, but for an excused absence your facility can issue a one-time coupon code worth the value of an Open Gym — usable toward any program and valid through the end of the session. Contact us at richardson@shredderski.com or (682) 999-4727.
Where exactly is the Richardson location?
We're at 1002 N. Central Expressway, Suite 229, Richardson, TX 75080 — right off Central Expressway near the East Belt Line Road intersection, about 6 miles north of Galleria Dallas and ~12 miles from downtown. Access us from the Central Expressway service road.
Is there parking or anything I should know before arriving?
Yes — free parking in the shopping center lot. Enter from the N. Central Expressway service road and look for the Shredder Ski sign at Suite 229. Plenty of spots available. Plan to arrive about 10 minutes early for your first session so we can get gear fitted.
How do I add participant information after booking?
You'll be prompted to add participant details (age, experience, ski or snowboard preference, shoe size) at checkout. This is required before your first session — if we don't receive it in time, we may not be able to accommodate your session. Email us at richardson@shredderski.com if you need help.
